Understanding the Importance of Oil Changes

Oil is the lifeblood of your BMW’s engine. It lubricates the moving parts, reduces friction, and helps maintain optimal engine temperature. Over time, oil degrades and becomes contaminated with particles that can cause wear and tear on the engine. Regular oil changes are crucial for preventing engine damage, improving performance, and extending the lifespan of your vehicle.

Oil Change Intervals: Everything You Need to Know

Newer BMW models use Condition Based Servicing (CBS) to monitor various components and determine when they need to be serviced. CBS considers several factors, including:

• Mileage: CBS uses miles driven to determine when routine maintenance, such as oil changes, should be performed.
• Time: Even if the vehicle has not been driven for a long time, CBS considers how long it has been since the last service, as certain components might need to be serviced.
• Driving style: In order to measure the amount of stress on vehicle components, CBS monitors the acceleration, braking, and speed of the driver. If you drive hard and fast, your vehicle will need more frequent maintenance.
• Environmental conditions: Extreme temperatures, humidity, and other environmental factors can damage vehicle components. When determining maintenance requirements, CBS takes these factors into account.
• Fluid condition: CBS can also determine whether oil and coolant need to be changed or replenished.

The CBS system can create a more precise maintenance schedule, allowing you to reduce the risk of missing scheduled service or maintenance and potential damage to your beloved BMW.

For non-CBS models, the maintenance schedules set by BMW determine how often an oil change is recommended. For example, BMWs usually require an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, although this may vary by model. Always check the owner’s manual for specific details for your vehicle.

Oil Change Procedure

At Evolve, we will carry out the oil change as below:

• Drain the old oil: Our technicians will drain and dispose of the old oil & filter properly.
• Replace the oil filter: The old oil filter is removed and inspected before being replaced with a new Genuine BMW or equivalent quality oil filter.
• Add new oil: We will add the correct type and amount of oil to your BMW engine to ensure optimal performance and protection.
• Update service history: The relevant service light is reset and either the service book is stamped, or on F/G series BMWs the online service system, iDrive and key are updated.

By collaborating with certified waste management firms, we can minimise the ecological impact of these materials through the disposal and recycling of these materials.
